1. Isle of Palms County Park
Lowcountry locals and visitors alike love Isle of Palms County Park! This Charleston County Park is just steps from the shore and offers several grill stations where you can bring burgers, steaks, chicken, or ribs and have a cookout as you watch a gorgeous Isle of Palms sunset over the ocean! There is also a snack bar and beach equipment rental station that is open seasonally.
Isle of Palms County Park Hours:
- January to April | 10:00 a.m. – Sunset
- May to Labor Day | 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
- September to December | 10:00 a.m. – Sunset
- Closed: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day
2. Palmetto Islands County Park
Head to Palmetto Islands County Park in nearby Mount Pleasant for more outdoor recreation! Here, you can enjoy paved nature trails, bike and pedal boat rentals, a grass volleyball court, picnic shelters, and more. One of the most popular attractions at this Charleston park is the nature island, which is accessible via paved trails and bridges!

3. James Island County Park
James Island County Park offers similar outdoor activities as the other two Charleston parks listed above. However, this park is best known for the James Island County Park Holiday Festival of Lights. This light show is a staple of Christmas in Charleston. With more than 700 light displays, sweet treats, and an appearance from Santa, there’s no better time to experience this county park!
