Your Guide to Surfing on Isle of Palms

What Kind of Waves Can You Expect?

You may not find huge swells while surfing on Isle of Palms, but the waves here are excellent for all levels of experience. Experts can find ways to entertain themselves by practicing tricks and mixing it up, but beginners will appreciate the less intense three-foot swells that frequent the area. Of course, if you watch the wave patterns and weather closely, you’ll be able to catch some that measure out in the four to six-foot range, especially during hurricane season. Make sure you check the Isle of Palms Pier Surf Report before your trip, so you know what to expect once you hit the water!

What’s the Best Time to Surf on IOP?

You can surf on IOP all year long, but there a couple of prime times to hit the waves. The summer is one of the better times of the year to enjoy the warm weather and water. Crowds can make it challenging to find open patches of water to navigate, so we also recommend September and the beginning of October as excellent months to surf on Isle of Palms. The limited crowds and extended summer weather make for a great trip to the South Carolina Lowcountry!
